Hello friends and competitors, welcome to our (WKC) first newsletter.

Confusion

It would seem that there is a certain amount of confusion taking place at the moment concerning the world championships. So I will try to set the record straight. In February we held the WKA National Championships and selections tournament. All of you competitors reading this that got a medal that day were also automatically placed on the England squad.

Then I emailed everyone and informed that we (myself and the whole of the WKA executive) had resigned from the WKA and gone over to the newly formed World body the W.K.C.

England and a few other countries were fed up of the continuing high prices to get to the World Championships. Each year it cost more and more money to take a team. It is an amateur sport and spiralling prices that were set by head office were causing tremendous drop outs with the world teams. The WKA’s annual statement to all world presidents stated, ’That unless you book your rooms through the WKA, participation in the world event is not possible’. Not possible!  How can this be? And what makes it right?

So each year we take the teams and pay the price. Last year in the USA in Florida the whole trip took on a frightening reality in terms of costs and expenses. Enough was enough, many like minded presidents from around the world came to me and after a general meeting it was decided to opt out and form our own world body, the WKC (world karate & kickboxing council) Our first act in this new world body was to state that we are stamping out the high prices and even stating the world entry fees (starts) for the next 3 years would be frozen.

Then we put forward the motto, the WKC ‘where the competitor always comes first’.

The next thing was to arrange a World Championship’s, which we have done in Dublin from the 30th October to 4th November 2009.  After the website was launched many countries rushed to join us because they liked the idea that we were taking our sport to the next level. And of course we are the only world body to concentrate solely on mat sports. The website took over a 1,000 hits within the first couple of days. It seems that everyone has been waiting for something new to happen, something to put our sport back on the right track.

Then the new president of the WKA Del Samson sent out a mail advising everyone that their place on the WKA team was guaranteed, if they emailed him.  This then added a confusion aspect into the situation. WKC or WKA, two teams, two world championships, Dublin and Spain. Which one do you go to?

Please carry on reading.

What Next?

So all of you reading this that won a medal in Manchester on Sunday 8th February now have a question you have to ask yourselves. But we will come to that in a moment.

First let me tell you about the WKC World Championships in Dublin. Up to now we have 21 countries signed up to bring a team. That is nearly double the amount of countries that were in Florida last year at the world championships. If any one doubts that it was only 11 then I have the official WKA final listings that were sent to me by head office.

The England squad price for 7 days and 6 nights to travel and stay in a four star hotel with full breakfast is only £499. The hotel is also the venue for the world championships, so no travel. Joe Tierney at Martec who supply the team tracksuit and because of our passion of cutting costs, has left the cost of the squad suits at last years prices.

All the weight categories in the WKC are the same as the WKA and other world bodies. The rules are the same but we guarantee the prices are not!

So if you qualified in Manchester you are already on the WKC team and should have had emails with deposit forms and other paperwork sent to you. If not, then get in touch.

Obviously if you don’t want to come us  and decide to stay with the WKA and their world trip to Spain then you need to contact them.

We have been informed that Paul Ingram the head of the WKA in an email stated that,’ the WKC world’s will be smaller and also more expensive than the WKA's’. I cannot argue with that as I don’t know what the WKA are charging this year. But if you decide to go with them you can compare what they are charging for travel and accommodation, to our (WKC) price of £499.00.

On a final note don’t forget to check out ‘Facebook’ on the web it would seem that although we at the WKC are insignificant and not worth bothering about. They, the WKA, are getting nervous, to the extent of printing out of context messages and putting them up on Facebook in the hopes of causing the WKC some embarrassment.

Why is it that they have, nearly 21 weeks later, after our return from Florida, suddenly began a smear campaign against us?? Surely they are not scared that true martial artists, men and women of integrity and honour, may become a runaway success. And perhaps show them up for they really are.

Apparently, according to the Facebook notice, the prices we were  charging our teams/squads for the Florida trip was not the fault of the WKA but England and Canada increasing prices for their own profits!

Can I ask you, who starts a smear campaign against a new body that supposedly hasn’t a hope in hell?  That’s like calling for  a coal strike on the hottest day of the year.

What do you think?       Suspicious, It stinks!

Then if any doubt still exists in your mind about what I have just stated I suggest that you contact anyone of the 200  strong England squad that went to Disney and ask them what was the room price advertised at reception when we checked in. You do the Maths!!

The politics will continue to mar our sport in general. It’s up to you who you actually believe. But just watch over the next few years as we really get going with our war on prices and rising costs.

The
competitor has to come first otherwise our sport will die.
